With 25 year contracts for SEZs and Freeports, which are illegal under EU regulations, still being issued by the current government, there is no way the UK can rejoin.

Great advice from the author.

Take every little morsel of alignment on offer and keep looking for more.

But also immediately make throw in generous cooperation on youth travel, waivers for creatives and every form of educational & scientific - and of course security - collaboration.

The UK cannot ultimately afford to be outside the EU; nor can the EU (given the drift to the right there) do without the UK - especially as regards security, the climate crisis, and reigning in the out of control tech empires.

The fact that the EU is ailing is a reason to get back in for self-defence! Not to stay out and watch a debacle unfold.
