Mic Wright's New Book 'Breaking'.

Adrian Goldberg is joined on the latest podcast by Mic Wright, Byline Times columnist and author of a new book called, “Breaking – How The Media Works, When It Doesn’t And Why It Matters.”

The Byline Times itself grew out of the phone hacking scandal, and the court cases which followed, when newspapers coudn’t be trusted to report on their own misdeeds.

The Leveson Inquiry was an attempt to clean up Fleet Street, but Leveson 2 – the part of the inquiry looking at the sometimes incestuous relationship between politicians and the press – was scrapped when the press put pressure on a politician, Theresa May, at a time when she needed their help to survive

Mic Wright’s book looks at Leveson – how could it not? - but also examines the broader sweep of media bad behaviour before and after phone hacking.

In typically pugnacious style Mic says, “If you want a book where journalists are the heroes, All the President’s Men is still in print.”
