If you hit a wall with a sledgehammer with enough force and at its weakest spot, there is a good chance you can eventually bring it down. If there was water behind that wall, now rushing toward you, that sledgehammer does nothing to stem the tide. You can flail away with as much force as you can muster but, at best, all you will become is tired and wet as the water engulfs you. At worst? You drown.
