Forget The Mainstream Media, Watch Byline TV Election Coverage
Byline TV is launching its election coverage from Byline Festival at Dartington Hall from 9.30pm on election night, just in time to catch the announcement of the exit polls.
Byline TV is launching its election coverage from Byline Festival at Dartington Hall from 9.30pm on election night, just in time to catch the exit polls.
The Byline Times team of Hardeep Matharu, Peter Jukes, Adam Bienkov and Josiah Mortimer will be broadcasting from the glorious medieval Great Hall with a range of special guests.
It is appropriate that Byline TV’s first election night broadcast is from Dartington, where the early drafts of the 1945 Labour manifesto were drawn up. Will 2024 prove to be such an epoch-making event? Will a new Labour Government manage to rebuild the welfare state and NHS so it can fulfil Atlee and Bevan’s vision?
With a live audience of Byline festival-goers and special guests including Sangita Myska, Bonnie Greer, Otto English and Peter York, as well as Professor Jay Rosen from NYU, the TV show will look at the election stories and aspects of the campaigns that the other papers and TV stations ignore. Expect to hear the word Brexit and to find out about the disinformation and malpractice we picked up in our Vote Watch, uncovering the dirtiest UK election yet.
Have lies beaten truth? Which Government big beasts are going to lose their seats? Did the fear tactics of the Conservatives depress the Labour vote, have Reform taken chunks out of the Conservatives and did Ed Davey’s final bungee jump make a difference? Our expert Byline TV panel will provide the answers without fear or favour.
With a break after the exit polls, Byline TV will be back broadcasting from Midnight until the new Prime Minister is declared, except for a short break to kick out the live audience at 1.30am. Settle in with us for the whole of election night and be part of this historic night without any fawning client journalists or false ‘balance’.
If you still haven’t had enough when the new smiling Prime Minister is triumphant, at 11am the next morning, after a short kip, our intrepid Byline TV broadcast team and bleary-eyed special guests will be reviewing the important stories from the night and discussing what the future Government priorities look like.
Of course, if you are attending Byline Festival and coming to our election night event, free for festival ticket holders, you will enjoy being part of the studio audience and posing your own questions to the panel on live TV. You will also have the opportunity to nip out to the White Hart pub next door for refreshments. While we are warming up for the live broadcast our special guests will take part in a special session of ‘What The Papers Don’t Say’. Leafing through the election day newspapers, they will discuss what is not covered, and really should be, in a humorous way. MC Adrian Goldberg (of BBC Radio 4 fame) will keep us all in line.
If you would like to join us in person on Thursday at Dartington Hall in Devon there are still a handful of tickets left at https://www.dartington.org/event/byline-festival-2024
Election night is just the first of three nights at the sixth Byline Festival (seventh if you include our New York festival in 2017) that will last all Friday and over the weekend. The talk programme will discuss, amongst other things, the danger of Trump becoming president, mending broken Britain, how to prevent a third world war and include Byline Audio’s new Americana and Utter Bollox podcasts live on stage for the first time as well of course, The Bad Press Awards presented by the incomparable Jonathan Pie and Rosie Holt MP. Also, there are special interviews with Sangita Myska, Peter Oborne, George Monbiot and Palestinian journalist, Ahmed Alnaouq, and the chance to hang out with your favourite Byline Times journalists.
You never quite know what is going to be announced or featured at the festivals. In the past we have featured the Cambridge Analytica whistle blowers, encouraged a labour deputy leader to admit Russian disinformation for the first time, and featured human rights lawyers with their clients whose lives they have saved. Every festival is packed with memorable moments.
As well as the beautiful Grade 2 listed gardens and the glorious Devon countryside, the festival also includes a literary programme, selected documentaries, spoken word, music acts, bands and DJs on the lawn. You can even watch England’s football match on Saturday in the Barn Theatre.
If you like journalism mixed with comedy, culture and music, this is the right festival for you.
We would love you join us at Byline Festival at Dartington Hall, Totnes, TQ9 6EL. Hurry up as there are very few tickets left https://www.dartington.org/event/byline-festival-2024
