Florida's 'Free Speech' Warriors are Turning the State into the Libel Capital of the World

While most of the world is rushing to protect journalists from frivolous libel lawsuits, the anti-woke crusaders currently running Florida are doing the opposite.

Shamefully, it is not for any allegedly noble purpose like national security or even judicial efficiency, but rather it is an attempt to create the conditions for a new Jim Crow society where billionaires and racists are protected, but journalists and minorities are not. 

The United Kingdom’s stiff libel laws are so stilted against the press that bad guys like Russian mutineer Yevgeny Prigozhin chose London as the venue for a nuisance suit against Bellingcat’s Elliot Higgins. 

However, if Florida’s proposed new defamation regime is implemented, it’s not a stretch to say it could replace the UK as the venue of choice for bad guys looking to hurt journalists with frivolous litigation.
