Interesting as always the conversation that is. Two thoughts that I could extrapolate in an article for BT as an ex-journo but remains one. On the Strangers spiel, Starmer was thoughtless and ill-advised, and provided on a platter fodder for the twitterati journalism the airwave studios and’Fleet St’ overpaid hacks feed on.
The charge that Starmer and the inner circle have not developed a vision and mission for the nation is apt. Slogans such as ‘change’ and ‘growth’ have short shelf life unless meaningful action ensue. Cost of living mounts and impending strategic papers are not a salve. And as the govt chases its tail, the headlines sneer. Rather than let rationale speak. Lab has been out of power for 14 years and it’s going to make mistakes and errors of judgment in finance, society’s needs and involuntary U-turns. There seems to be a colossal failure in ‘govt of the people, for the people, by the people’ adage. Why don’t we ask why has the country become so hateful of strangers when their numbers have worked, contributed and developed these isles from the times of Empire?
Another core development of the week has been the birth of the PLP as a muscular “trade union” within Westminster, holding govt to account over the demos of disability rights organisers or traditional unionists. That’s a fresh political development; if only the govt and its reps can together address the pervading sicknesses affecting society and economy.
Frankly, who wrote that?
Fwiw
When you are working at that level every word is considered, consulted over.
It's highly improbable that was written by someone politically green enough to use them by mistake.
Incendiary words, even if you don't know what Powell said.
Yeah, like the person writing the literal Prime Minister's speeches has never heard of one of the most famous speeches in British history lol.
Gr8 discussion. As an expat living in Oz, you are my sane 'go to place' for tuning into what's going on over there. Thanks 🙏

You need to sort your sound balance so that all speakers are same volume. Otherwise good.
