  • 70% OF VOTERS SAY BORIS JOHNSON LIED ABOUT PARTYGATE

  • EVEN CONSERVATIVES DON’T TRUST HIM TO TELL THE TRUTH

  • VOTERS OF ALL PARTIES OPPOSE A JOHNSON RETURN

  • MAJORITY BACK A BY-ELECTION FOR HIS SEAT

Boris Johnson has lost the trust of the British people, according to exclusive new polling for the Byline Supplement, which reveals that even Conservative voters no longer have any faith in the former Prime Minister.

The polling, conducted by pollsters Omnisis in the wake of his appearance this week before an inquiry into whether he lied to MPs over Partygate, found widespread distrust among the public.

Johnson insists that he acted in “good faith”, when wrongly claiming last year that all Covid rules had been followed inside Downing Street during lockdown.

However, our poll found that just one-in-ten voters believe he told the truth, with seven-in-ten instead believing he lied.

Interestingly the poll found that even Conservative voters have lost faith in their party’s former leader, with just 28% saying they believed he told the truth about the scandal.

No Way Back for Johnson

Johnson’s actions appear to have led to a broader collapse in trust in the former PM.

Almost seven-in-ten (69%) said they generally do not trust him to tell the truth, compared to just 18% who say they do.

Johnson’s allies, such as Conservative MP Nadine Dorries, have been publicly calling for his return to Downing Street.

However, his handling of the scandal appears to have destroyed what was left of any residual public support for his potential return, according to our poll.
